Claudia Vecchio
Claudia Vecchio was born and raised in Milan, Italy. After completing her postgraduate degree in Political Science, majoring in International Law, at the University of Milan, she moved to Brussels where she undertook further postgraduate courses on Law of the European Union. After a short period of teaching at York University, she went into Real Estate.
Since her childhood, Claudia has shown a great love for animals and a particular attraction to cats. She has rescued stray and abandoned cats on her own for 25 years. In 2002, she realized that she could no longer carry out these massive rescue efforts by herself. She decided, with Corrine Thaw, to found ORA - Organization for the Rescue of Animals - a rescue organization that obtained charitable status in November 2002.
Claudia's dream is to create wildlife sanctuaries throughout Southern Ontario - oasis where wildlife, endangered by urban sprawl, may find quiet and peaceful areas in which to live undisturbed.

Casey Panning
Casey Panning is the Community Outreach & Education Coordinator at the Toronto Humane Society. Her role at the Humane Society is to teach young and old alike about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and compassion for living things. This is achieved through field trips to the shelter in addition to in-class workshops. Casey completed her Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate/Senior division at OISE (University of Toronto) in 2012, and recently completed a Master's in Public Health at the Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph) in 2016. Her current role integrates her two passions of teaching and animal welfare.

Jack Feder
Jack Feder is an Engineering Science graduate from the University of Toronto and now works as an electrical engineer designing innovative electronic medical instruments.

Cathy Broughton
Cathy Broughton, founder of Cathy Broughton Dog Walking, is a professional dog walker in our community.

Galen Udell
Galen Udell is a business and marketing graduate from Simon Fraser University. He has worked in multiple companies including IBM and a cable and infrastructure company. He is now pursuing his lifelong passion by starting Bark ‘n Yapp, a website to create an online community for dog lovers and related businesses.

Lucas Chang
Lucas Chang is working with companies to identify what was holding them back from achieving profitability or growth targets, and helping them plan and overcome those plateaus. Along the way, he also became the community lead for Startup York Region, (a chapter of Startup Canada), which brings together entrepreneurs from across the region. Working with partners in the ecosystem to foster an environment that encouraged more startups, he co-created the EIR (Entrepreneurs in Residence) speaker series, where entrepreneurs share their journeys and stories in TEDx-like fashion, ran a Startup Weekend, and co-founded the Y2 Entrepreneurship Labs, dedicated to helping teenagers learn about entrepreneurship and innovation by connecting them with entrepreneur mentors. Since January 2016, he has also been managing PerfectlySoft’s daily operations, and working with developers from Toronto and across the globe to help them learn how to use the server-side Swift framework Perfect. Recognized as a shift disturber in York Region, he has been invited to speak about startups and startup ecosystems at various schools and universities, on the radio, and on podcast.

Rosemary Muccilli

Rosemary Muccilli is a franchisee of a Global Pet Foods store in North Toronto for over 10 years. Prior to working in Global Pets, she was a land planning manager with the city of Toronto.


Melissa Chee

Melissa is an accompilished technology executive with a proven track record in organizational transformation, new product development and C-level business operations with broad experience in building successful teams within multinational and start-up organizations. As a respected entrepreneurial C-Suite leader with a passion for new product development, innovation and technology commercialization, Melissa has held leadership roles in business operations, strategic planning, product marketing, corporate development, program management, capital raising, and large-scale project planning for predictive analytic enterprise software, semiconductor hardware and wireless communication systems. Melissa is currently the Director of New Initiatives with P&L responsibility for the strategy, implementation, delivery and executive oversight of new product development at one of the largest business units in Constellation Software (TSE: CSU). Prior to her current role, Melissa was the Executive Officer and Vice-President of Product, Operations and Marketing at Spectra7 (TSE: SEV), where she headed the Company’s business operations, product, supply chain and corporate marketing organizations. Previously, Melissa was the Director of Marketing, where she led worldwide product teams to deliver high volume products sold to major consumer electronics manufacturers and grew global market share through successful channel expansion into Japan, Korea and China. Melissa also built the Company's investor and public relations organizations including M&A due diligence and planning which led to a public listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Melissa started her career at Nortel where she held roles in product management, marketing, and systems engineering spanning wireless, optical, and enterprise technologies. She is a passionate advocate for Innovation in Canada, Technology Commercialization, Women in Technology and other Social Impact Initiatives having held numerous board and volunteer positions in these areas, including her current roles as a Corporate Cabinet Member of Make-A-Wish Canada® and Advisory Member for the Global Impact Challenge and Ontario Innovation Celebration. Melissa graduated with Honours with an MBA from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from McGill University.


Ron Cassar

Ron Cassar, Software Management, Pegmatis Inc. Mr. Cassar has extensive multinational leadership experience with an array of domains including internet-of-things, smart control, smart TV, mobile, telecommunications, and document/content management. He has worked with Bell Northern Research, Nortel, Siemens, and Flextronics. Among Mr. Cassar’s many career accomplishments is leading the software engineering organization at Jamdeo, where he delivered VIDAA to reestablish Hisense as the number one Smart TV solution in China. He also managed the organization that delivered the system software for the IMERJ dual-screen Android phone. His greatest strength is his ability to take a concept and break through technical, staffing, and/or mental barriers to generate momentum for ground-breaking technology. He leads his teams to achieve unparalleled software quality through proper design, development, and quality practices. Mr. Cassar is also highly effective in adapting methodologies and practices to create hybrid approaches for any organization and type of product. He holds a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science.


James Ball

James Ball, System Architecture and RF/Wireless Architecture, Pegmatis Inc. Mr. Ball has 15 years of engineering experience across multiple disciplines including electrical and RF hardware design, electrical system architecture, embedded software, and test automation. Most recently, he held the position of Senior Staff Engineer as a Hardware System Architect at Flextronics. He acted as architect and design manager for several consumer electronic products for major customers including Bose and Google. Previously he worked as the Project Lead System Integrator for Prolucid Technology where he was responsible for project management as well as commercial/industrial automation and control. Prior to that he was a Senior RF Electrical Engineer at Motorola working in mobile phone product development. His experience and knowledge in electrical, RF and software development allow him to solve complex problems in both the hardware and software domains. Mr, Ball has been involved in the research and development of new technology and has multiple patents pending. He has taken leading-edge technology from design concept through to mass production while successfully managing cost targets and project schedules. He achieved the highest level of certification for National Instruments LabVIEW programming and used this skill to create test automation and PC tools to save companies hundreds of thousands of dollars by improving efficiency and increasing product quality. He holds an honours B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.


Steve Miao

Steve Miao, EE Architecture, Pegmatis Inc. In his role as a Senior EE Architect and Design Lead, Steve Miao uses his 18 years of experience to realize hardware ideas into delightful, shipping products. In his last corporate engagement, he was the Senior EE Architect and Design Lead at Flextronics, a leading sketch-to-scale EMS company, where he worked closely with high-volume clients such as Bose, Valve and Google. HE has also gained experience in consumer companies such as Logitech and in the start-up world. Aside from product design, Steve brings project management, factory NPI and mass production experience to the table and is committed to seeing the designs through manufacturing and into the customer’s hands. He holds a M.Sc in Electronics Engineering.


Calvin Curry

Calvin Curry, Manufacturing Engineering,Pegmatis Inc. Mr. Curry found his passion for engineering when he attended Georgian College where he studied for an advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Manufacturing. His journey continued at McMaster University where he earned a Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Engineering. He completed both programs with honors. During his studies, he was granted an opportunity to work for Weber Technologies, Moore Packaging and Maclean Engineering, and Flextronics. Calvin has been specializing in consumer electronics and wearable technology industry. He has a pragmatic understanding of engineering, with experience in both global and domestic markets. When Mr. Curry is not being an engineer, he is out hunting, fishing and enjoying hiking in the outdoors. He likes to spend time with his family, go camping and craft components out of metal and wood such as guitars.
